Daniel Heikens (1980) is a photographer based in The Hague whose work spans both social documentary and abstract urban photography. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), he captures unseen perspectives of city life — from powerful series like De Matlas, highlighting subcultural identity, to abstract photographic compositions using analog techniques. In series like those shown in Between the Lines, he explores the formal beauty of the everyday cityscape. By isolating fragments of urban space — shadows, reflections, and architectural lines — he blurs the boundary between reality and abstraction, turning ordinary environments into visual poetry. Heikens is also active as a photography educator, vintage expert, and curator, with a broad knowledge of historical techniques and strong engagement with local communities.
